It is our great pleasure to welcome all of you to ICAA12, the 12th International Conference on Aluminium Alloys, to be held in Yokohama, Japan in 2010. This is the second time for the ICAA to be held in Japan, following ICAA6 held in Toyohashi in 1998. The Japan Institute of Light Metals (JILM) is honored to host ICAA12, and it is also a great privilege to be supported by The Light Metal Educational Foundation, Inc., Japan Aluminium Association and Japan Light Metal Welding & Construction Association. The ICAA, which is held every two years, is the leading international conference on aluminium alloys, ranging from production, processing, and alloy development, to applications. In ICAA12, we are organizing special technical sessions on the latest developments and applications of aluminium alloys together with key topics of fundamental importance. Japan is a major producer of high-quality aluminium products with leading companies meeting the strong demand from industries such as transportation and packaging. There will be a number of excellent keynote presentations on basic research and industrial applications, and we also welcome a wide range of presentations on recent advances in the science and technology of aluminium alloys. We hope that many people from around the world will attend ICAA12.

Welcome to Yokohama! The conference venue, PACIFICO YOKOHAMA, is located in the world-class convention complex facing this dynamic international port. This is an ideal place for researchers and engineers involved in aluminium alloys to meet together for lively discussions and to chart the future direction of aluminium. The area around the venue also offers many interesting tourist sights as well as fine restaurants with traditional Japanese, French, casual American and Chinese cuisine. Within a short distance are the historical town of Kamakura, which is the birthplace of the samurai class, as well as beautiful Mt. Fuji, the symbol of Japan. We hope the attractions of Yokohama, together with the importance of this conference series, will encourage you to make a presentation at the conference. We look forward to seeing you here in Yokohama.
